October is one of my favorite times to be at Deep Creek Lake. Crisp mornings, colorful mountains and fall traditions make this a great month to enjoy Garrett County, Maryland—and explore the possibility of owning a home here.

Local Real Estate Market: August Sales Increased
The market figures shared in this month’s email cover August 2026. Compared with August 2025, the Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County markets recorded:
- 41% more homes sold
- 50% higher total dollar volume
- 66 average days on market, compared with 98 a year earlier
My takeaway: buyers continued to be active as summer wound down. For sellers, thoughtful pricing and strong presentation remain essential. For buyers, knowing your priorities and being prepared can help when a suitable property becomes available.

October Events & Fall Activities
Autumn Glory Festival: October 7–11, 2026
The 59th annual Autumn Glory Festival celebrates fall across Garrett County. The five-day celebration includes craft shows, music, turkey dinners and scenic foliage driving tours. The Grand Feature Parade takes place in Oakland on Saturday, October 10.

Wisp Oktoberfest: Saturday, October 3, 2026
Wisp Resort’s Oktoberfest runs from noon to 6 p.m., with Bavarian food, seasonal brews, live music, artisans and activities for kids. It’s a fun way to spend a fall afternoon in McHenry. See Wisp’s event details.
